Not being the slimmest of women, I decided upon experimenting with cool backpacks. Being chubby, overweight, plus size (call it what you will – I call it being fat) means that we big girls tend to have to work a bit harder to look good.
Fact is that the only exercise I willingly take part in is the short walk from here to the cookie jar; therefore I have decided to move away from the usual route to weight loss (generally known as diet and exercise) in favor of misdirection.
This is what led me to my experimenting with trying out a variety of unique backpacks, to see which one gave the best fit. So to speak. I figured out that if everyone’s eyes were on my awesome backpack and not on the size of my not so awesome ass then I could consider myself as close to being thinner as anyone would ever have the right to do.
Admittedly one cool backpack does not a thin person make but you can’t argue with the results. These days I’m showered with compliments about what’s attached to my back, rather than on the fat that’s attached to my hips.
Moving along, my top rated cool backpack is the Mobile Edge MEBPEX2 Express Backpack. It is, in a word, cool. Very much so.
It’s good for laptops, spacious enough for books and work projects and don’t get me started on the neat pockets and niches that allow you to lose all kinds of stationary and other non-interesting paraphernalia.
It also makes me look good. It draws the eyes of the detractors and the snickerers, and it’s also been known to draw an admiring glance or two. I don’t mind that those flattering peeks relate to my bag because I can’t fault its design, the hardware and versatility. Not to mention that I know they’re peeking at my backpack and not by butt simply because the girth of that baby requires a full on stare. It’s that big.
As far as cool backpacks go, this one’s cool to the chromosomes. And if I wear cool, I look cool. And so will you. The design, the styling and details all add up to one happy customer and let’s face it, being on the wrong side of chubby means that I need a bag to match my physique. And this bag is heavy on quality, looks and function. And almost as cheap as a three course meal of Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

After hunting around for discount tote bags, I thought it time to swing the other way and have a look at what’s one offer in the luxury handbags department. Of course I mentally blew several thousand dollars as there’s no such thing as a one handbag woman … is there?!
I figured that the coming season means we’re entitled to behave a little frivolous and why not? Spring is in the air, the sun is shining and it’s time to start afresh. What better way to celebrate the rebirth of all things Spring and Summery than with a gorgeous (new) piece of designer arm candy?

I love the look and feel of this leather drawstring bag. It’s definitely got the right ‘Spring’ appeal, with its attractive lime green color and the lovely contrasting Indian inspired brown cotton lining.
The interior features two slip pockets and one zippered pocket, a magnetic closing and of course the drawstring is a braided rope that compliments the long shoulder strap. The underside is shaped so that it can sit on its base, and the whole bag is well finished and delivers on the quality that you should expect from a bag with this kind of price tag.

This is one of those drawstring bags that embraces boho chic down to the last stitch. Despite the fact that it’s based upon the same shape and size as the previous product, this crochet knit tote bag is still different enough to make it a great choice.
The colors and pattern of the stitches are reminiscent of days long past, the late 60’s and early 70’s, when the world felt as though it was floating on gossamer wings, the sun always seemed to shine and there was always somewhere to go, somewhere to be.

Having heard a lot about the Healthy Back bag, we at Pursenickety thought we’d give one a road test. Or at least a ‘walk-around-with-one-strapped-to-your-body’ test. So that’s exactly what we did. Or at least – I did.
I wanted a new backpack anyway and being in the tote bag business I knew I could grab one at a good discount, so I did just that. I decided on the Classic Leather Small, as I knew that it was going to have to work hard and last a long time.
I opted for the Espresso shade, as I’m a big fan of natural looking leather totes, though there are 10 other shades for you to choose from. My test consisted of; wearing it, fully loaded. That meant filling it up with a small bag lunch, my cell phone, PDA, iPod, wallet, keys, coin purse and a few other personal items I can’t seem to live without.
After hoisting it onto my back (and you can wear them like a crossbody bag or a shoulder tote) for a week I have to say I’m impressed. It never gets in the way, it’s easy to swing round and grab when you need something that’s inside it and my back never complained, not once.
The leather is stunningly good; soft, smells and feels great and the lining, zippers and hardware are all top notch stuff. There’s a spot for your drink, house and/or car keys and cell phone, plus the interior is bigger than it looks.
Once you’ve got it packed up the shape and overall design seem to lend to the Healthy Back bags ability to evenly distribute the weight. It is comfortable to wear, even after a good old hike around town. It’s surprising how well made it is and it’s definitely capable of carrying some fair weight.

There are a couple of others that I have my eye on, simply because I am hugely impressed with mine. I 
particularly like the Healthy Back Bag tote, which is a great twist on what your average tote should look like. My choice would be the Black/spruce, though there are two other colors.
It consists of the same teardrop shape, with a similar array of storage pockets and interior organization that you get with the Classic Leather. Again this one will pack more into its interior than the exterior would suggest.
The lining is nylon, the zippers and hardware have the same quality attitude and for those that need a bag-to-go that also takes care of their back, it’s a great alternative choice.

your own paraphernalia in there too. Don’t be deceived by the picture, this diaper bag is far bigger than it looks.
